The 5,200m2 hypermarket is equipped with environmentally-friendly technologies inside and out and the shopping experience has been made faster with self-checkout counters. A modern playground completes the offer, providing entertainment for the children of shoppers.
An investment of €13 million went into the construction of the new INTERSPAR, which was completed within a year. To meet changing consumer needs, SPAR Hungary has extended its typical range of more than 20,000 SKUs with the new Tata hypermarket including organic and diet-specific products along with a full range of SPAR Own Brands.
“Our new INTERSPAR in Tata brings a higher level of service to people living in the area and has led to the creation of 78 new jobs. We are continuing to implement our programme of modernisation and plan to open a number of new stores throughout the rest of 2019,” said Márk Maczelka, Head of Communications at SPAR Hungary.
The company is committed to ensuring a first-class shopping experience in all of its stores. In addition to a salad bar and an inviting instore bakery, the INTERSPAR Hypermarket in Tata brings a new level of service to SPAR shoppers with its restaurant. The open-air terrace is a big draw on warm days and customers can choose from a variety of freshly made warm and cold dishes with something for everyone.
The INTERSPAR Hypermarket is built on the site of the former Tata Athletics Club pitch. The design is striking with the building’s supporting structure, beams and floor panels made entirely of wood. The interior of the eye-catching INTERSPAR has been designed with sustainable materials and includes environmentally-friendly technologies such as ozone-friendly cooling systems and energy-efficient LED lighting. Floor cooling/heating ensures optimal temperature control throughout the store and in addition to using waste heat for cooling and heating purposes, a heat-pump system has also been installed. The building with almost zero fossil fuel use features top quality doors, windows, and thermal insulation. It is also equipped with solar panel floor tiles, which power the phone chargers in the playground.
A free parking lot with 450 spaces is available to shoppers, with electric car charging bays. In cooperation with the Tata Municipality, space for an upcoming bike-sharing service is also being made.

About SPAR Hungary
The first SPAR Supermarket opened in Hungary in 1992, following the acquisition by ASPIAG (Austria SPAR International AG) of a majority stake in General Kereskedelmi Rt. Since its launch, SPAR Hungary has been actively involved in the development of the retail industry in the country.
The move to license independent retailers to operate the SPAR Brand has proven successful for Hungary, with new stores meeting the needs of a larger number of shoppers. The retailers benefit from becoming part of the SPAR organisation with access to own brand products, operating systems and the brand, whilst consumers enjoy the increased number of store locations.
