Download imageINTERSPAR Hypermarkets in Austria recently donated €62,000 to the EB House Austria in Salzburg. It’s the only specialist clinic nationwide for children living with the genetic, and so far incurable, disease Epidermolysis bullosa (EB).
The patient organisation DEBRA Austria runs the clinic financed by donations, making continuous support necessary. INTERSPAR Hypermarkets has supported the EB House for 17 years, raising a total of €751,000. Donations comprise the sales proceeds of butterfly-shaped pastries baked in INTERSPAR bakeries and sold nationwide in INTERSPAR Hypermarkets.
The EB House contributes to the diagnosis of the disease and provides medical care for those affected in terms of research, training, and education of medical professionals. Butterfly children receive competent medical care, counselling, and support from doctors and nursing staff at the clinic.
“INTERSPAR sees itself as an integral part of the neighbourhood. That is why it is important for us to support the community. Employees of INTERSPAR bakeries and INTERSPAR Hypermarkets are committed to the charity campaign. The donation of €62,000 would not be possible without our customers,” said Johannes Holzleitner, Managing Director of INTERSPAR Austria.
At a charity dinner, SPAR Austria and partners collected €100,000 for the KINDERleben initiative of the unser_kind association. The evening was hosted by SPAR Austria at the Mezzanine restaurant & bar in the INTERSPAR Hypermarkt Schottentor. Michelin-starred chef Paul Ivić cooked for the guests while radio and television presenter Andi Knoll hosted the event. Dozens of companies donated to promote research in paediatrics and paediatric intensive care.
SPAR Austria is a long-standing partner of the Comprehensive Center for Pediatrics (CCP) of the Medical University of Vienna at Vienna General Hospital, where seriously ill children are cared for. “We are happy to make our restaurant available for this important cause and invite our local partners to join us in treating and healing children. The successes show how well this gratifying donation of €100,000 is invested for the health of the weakest in our society,” said SPAR Austria Board member Markus Kaser.
