Long-term operators Spiro and Soula Kapetanos, son-in-law Dimitri, and daughter Maria Spyrakis celebrated their 10-year anniversary with SPAR on 28 November 2020 at their store in Sussex Inlet. Located on the South Coast of New South Wales, the supermarket services Sussex Inlet’s permanent population of approximately 5,000, which over the holiday period can increase to over 20,000.

The birthday celebrations officially began with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and featured a free sausage sizzle as well as instore specials.

The supermarket has been servicing the town for over 20 years, and during this period has been through many changes. Over the years, the store has grown from being 100m2 to now over 700m2. It now has a fully-serviced delicatessen providing antipasto, cold meat, BBQ chickens, and salads.

“Fresh produce is sourced on a daily basis through the Sydney Fruit Markets. We are extremely proud to have our in-house butchers providing quality meat to our customers every day. At SPAR Sussex Inlet, we are very lucky to have a great team that has worked and supported us over the years”, Dimitri said.

“Some of our department managers have been with us for over 20 years and have been stalwart’s for our business. At the same time, a new generation is coming through supplementing these managers.”

Refurbishing for the future
Dimitri commented that over the past few months the store had undergone a further refurbishment by installing new refrigeration to open the range of chilled and frozen goods. It also provides the opportunity to increase the ready-to-eat foods range.

“We have revitalized the store with brand new signage inside and out and installed new flooring which has modernized the look of the store”, he added.

Throughout the years, SPAR Sussex Inlet has supported many local sporting teams and community groups who help those in need.

“Especially in the last few years, we have endeavoured to help the local RFS crews from Sussex and Berrara which have kept us safe from some of the worst bushfires that this region has ever seen. From providing hot meals to pallets of water, we try to give them one less thing to worry about during these times and a sense that the community has got their full support.”
