Recently, the annual Käsekaiser gala was held at the castle of Perchtoldsdorf in the South of Vienna.

This is also the venue for the presentation of some key awards for the year 2016. Amongst other awards, an independent expert jury rated the most appealing cheese counter in the Austrian retail trade, taking into consideration both the creative design and knowledge of product plus correct handling of product. Great emphasis is placed on the expertise, customer advice about the different varieties and types of cheese as well as the general friendliness of staff members.

The trophy for the most appealing cheese counter in a store in the category 600-1,600m² was awarded to EUROSPAR Bregenz Kronhalde. Achieving this award means a lot to both the store manager, René Ditzer, and the trained cheese expert (Maitre Fromage) Monika Höller. SPAR Austria has placed a strong focus in the past few years on supporting local producers, highlighting regionality and emphasising freshness, which is evident in the cheese counter. This award also reflects the benefits of the time and effort spent on staff awareness and education about cheese.
