DESPAR Italia’s store network grew significantly in 2025

DESPAR Italia and the six companies making up the consortium are committed to the growth of the DESPAR brand nationwide, with the opening of 102 new stores and renovation of 30 stores throughout 2025.

This total of 132 opened and modernised stores was an increase of 22 stores compared to the previous year. Independent retailers form an integral part of DESPAR Italia’s retail model, with 114 of the 132 store developments being independently owned and operated stores. The core retail format, DESPAR neighbourhood and high traffic format, DESPAR Express, experienced the most growth, with 49 and 46 new and restyled stores opening respectively. In addition, five EUROSPAR supermarkets and two INTERSPAR hypermarkets were part of the DESPAR brand’s 2025 growth.

Regional growth

In terms of regional growth, DESPAR Nord added 27 new and refurbished stores to its portfolio. DESPAR Nord Ovest saw 14 new and six modernised stores open. DESPAR Central South saw the most growth, with a total of 62 new stores opening alongside three restyled stores, once again welcoming customers. The island of Sicily saw six new and modernised stores opening through its two partners, while DESPAR Sardinia opening five new stores and reopening three renovated stores.

Such growth and development strengthen the DESPAR brand’s core goal of meeting the needs of customers in local communities, whether in bustling city centres or the countryside, nationwide. By leveraging the SPAR multi-format retail model, specific store designs and product assortments can be tailored to the specific requirements of the shopper profile at that store’s location, providing a complete and comprehensive offer for customers.
