The Group’s national Distribution Centre (DC) serves more than 1,000 convenience stores around Ireland and completes more than 800 deliveries every day, with an average of 70,000 cases picked per day.
The state-of-the-art, 24,000 sqm DC in Dublin employs 300 people (60% permanent, 40% agency staff), and incorporates the Group’s entire ambient and chilled distribution, including the company’s bonded warehouse, making it one of the biggest facilities of its kind in the country. In essence, the DC operates 24/7 with just eight hours of down-time a week for essential maintenance. In total, it handles more than 46 million cases each year.
The BCP Accord Voice WMS System is used throughout the warehouse and the VITA System is used for loading and distribution.
Joanne Mellon, BWG Logistics Director said the company is delighted to have received the two awards on the back of its busiest year yet for the national DC: “Our extended team have been working tirelessly towards this level of excellence for a number of years now and this recognition proves that we have created a logistics network that is up there with the best in the world. It’s something that we’re very proud of.”
Criteria for Logistics Company of the Year Award
After all submissions were received, the entries were sent for the first round of review and were carefully scrutinised with only the best being shortlisted for each category.
The judges were divided into a minimum of two panels, ensuring the avoidance of any potential conflict. They scored each of the entries allocated to them against a predetermined set of scores. The scores were then collected and collated, with the highest overall scoring entrant being declared the winner of that category.
Criteria for Overall Logistics and Transport Excellence Award
