SPAR China turn focus to supply chain

November 28, 2018 IN THE CATEGORY: Responsible retailing

This work began with an in-depth analysis of the needs within the existing supply chain, in line with the focus of the Chinese Government on strengthening this key aspect of formalised retail. SPAR China Partners have been working on several initiatives, including the palletized delivery project by SPAR Guangdong which saw them being short-listed for the IGD Supply Chain Award.

SPAR China announced the new focus at a press conference which was held in the city of Kunming on October 31. The objective is to enhance their support of all their members, including both current and future SPAR Partners as well as connecting suppliers with retailers and developing greater numbers of SPAR Own Brand products to meet the needs of both retailers and customers. To achieve these goals, SPAR China will continue to support partners develop their distribution and retail businesses, expand SPAR Own Brand ranges and increase collaboration with other SPAR members to grow their export and import operation.

Hosted by SPAR China Partner, Yunnan, the 2018 SPAR International Regional Roundtable provided the perfect platform to exchange knowledge, such as SPAR Guangdong’s achievement in palletized delivery. This platform was also used to review in detail the progress with end-to-end supply chain initiatives, access to international best practice and clarify requirements from SPAR International suppliers to grow their businesses. To achieve, this, all SPAR China Partners, SPAR Preferred Suppliers of Equipment and the SPAR International team came together to share knowledge on distribution and retail best practice.

At the 2018 SPAR International Logistics & IT Systems Conference held recently in Oslo, the delegation from SPAR Guangdong was presented with a Special Recognition Award by SPAR International for their success with improving palletized delivery. Over the past six months, the team have been working with Swire Beverages, supplier of Coca-Cola, to improve efficiencies and thereby address one element of the end-to-end supply chain.

About SPAR China

SPAR was introduced to China in 2004 with the signing of the licence agreement for Shandong Province. This was followed by the addition of more partners, and now SPAR has eight partners in nine provinces: Shandong, Guangdong, Shanxi, Inner Mongolia, Beijing, Sichuan, Henan, Hebei and Yunnan.

The privately-owned retail chains licensed to operate SPAR have a cooperative relationship in line with the original SPAR mission of working together to reduce costs, maximise sales and increase profits. The SPAR China Partners, whilst part of a leading international group, maintain 100% local ownership.
