SPAR Switzerland expands network with first store in Klosters

July 20, 2020 IN THE CATEGORY: Store openings

At the beginning of July, SPAR Switzerland opened its first SPAR Supermarket in Klosters in the northeast of the country. The spaciously designed, customer-friendly neighbourhood store is located in a popular tourist area, part of the extended famous Davos ski resort. In addition to numerous local and regional specialities, the store also offers an extensive range of fresh products.

The independent retailers, Daria Beeli and Lodi Kurz, are actively involved in running the store. They focus on an extensive offer of regional and local specialities including dairy products, meat, bread, eggs, and honey, sourced from producers located near the store.

Another highlight is the extensive wine range comprising premium regional, national, and international wines. Daria Beeli and Lodi Kurz, both wine lovers, are particularly proud of this offer and happy to advise their customers.

Electronic shelf labels have been implemented instore to inform customers of the latest prices of the extensive product range.

At the opening festivities, customers were granted a 10% discount on all purchases for three days. Additionally, customers were treated to coffee and croissants and could purchase daily changing specialties, including Bami Goreng, hamburgers, and spareribs. Part of the sale proceeds was donated to the local kindergarten.

The SPAR Supermarket in Klosters is the latest addition to the SPAR Switzerland store network. SPAR Switzerland ended 2019 with 186 stores,  with a total retail sales area of 70,137m2 and combined retail sales of €492.33 million.

About SPAR Switzerland

SPAR Switzerland has undergone several changes since being founded in 1989. In 2000, the family-owned business was transformed into a holding company with three operating companies: SPAR Handels AG, TopCC AG and SPAR Management AG. The business grew further, combining corporate and independently owned stores, spanning forecourt retailing to large supermarkets.

In early 2016, SPAR Switzerland announced the sale of 60% of shares to SPAR South Africa. The existing management team and shareholders remain involved in the business.
