SPAR Spain continues brand expansion during second quarter of the year

SPAR Spain has continued growing the brand during the second quarter of 2020 with a string of store openings in different formats.

Almería

SPAR Partner Grupo Upper on 12 June opened a SPAR Express store in the town of Aldra, Almería. With a sales area of approximately 190m², this store has a butcher’s section, delicatessen counter, a bakery, and extensive dry goods and fresh produce departments.

Throughout the lockdown period, Grupo Upper has maintained its expansion policy having also opened two 250m² SPAR Express stores in Playa Honda and La Puebla in the province of Murcia in March and April, respectively.

Costa Brava

SPAR Spain partner Valvi Supermercats on 22 June opened two new SPAR Supermarkets along the Costa Brava in Tossa de Mar and Calella de Palafrugell.

The new SPAR in Tossa de Mar, located in the Salions Cove, offers a novel takeaway service, as well as self-service fruit and bakery sections, and a wine and spirits department. The supermarket is run by 19 employees and has a sales area of 167m².

The new SPAR Store in Calella de Palafrugell is located in the main street and employs 10 people. The store has 113m² of retail space, with an assisted butcher’s section, in addition to the self-service sections for fruit and bakery and the VNTC Valvi winery.

Gran Canaria

SPAR Gran Canaria on 3 June opened a new 160m² SPAR store in Telde el Goro, near their Distribution Centre. The store is operated by seven employees.

The store features a special deli and butcher’s area, as well as an innovative bakery and pastry section offering different varieties of fresh bread baked daily in store. The wide corridors and spacious departments give customers a premium shopping experience.

The SPAR store has a clear commitment to new technologies in energy efficiency, incorporating novel cold rooms and LED technology.
