SPAR South Africa’s KZN region is two SUPERSPAR Supermarkets richer

November 29, 2021 IN THE CATEGORY: Store openings

Investment into developing world-class stores by independent SPAR South Africa retailers created another two great SUPERSPAR Supermarkets opened in KwaZulu Natal province. Both offer a great shopping experience, excellent quality products, several service departments, and modern fixtures.

SUPERSPAR in Umkomaas

In the busy centre of this small town, the supermarket was expanded and modernised in just eight months into a magnificent SUPERSPAR store. Upon entering the store, customers see fresh produce and the ready-to-heat department. The range of produce is a feast for the eye and sets the tone for the shopping experience to be enjoyed.

Additional service departments include an incredible butchery with a broad range and excellent service. A Fire & Grill section where customers choose the cut of meat to be grilled whilst shopping has been added. A pizza concept whereby pizzas are made to order whilst customers wait is popular.

The bakery department which has been expanded to include more ambient and chilled choices now offers a broad range which satisfies everyone with a sweet tooth. The coffee corner completes the ready-to-consume options instore.

This is the third supermarket which is operated by the Pretorius family and the world-class concepts reflect the quality experience they offer in all their stores.

Kensington centre SUPERSPAR

Two sisters own and operate the SUPERSPAR Supermarket in Kensington shopping centre in Durban north. They have invested in modernising this store, adding in more service departments, expanding the product offer, increasing the refrigeration, and improving the lighting.

A classically elegant finish was achieved by mixing wooden details and modern steel frames with beautiful tiles and signage in the fresh produce section. The bakery department offers a wider variety of both sweet and savoury products with improved merchandising options with wooden nested tables. The butchery counter also offers a delicatessen choice, adding value for customers. Making this store a favourite destination for customers is also the SPAR Natural section, gifting corner, ready-to-consume choices including a coffee corner.

About SPAR South Africa

SPAR South Africa was established in 1963 and operates four retail formats: SPAR, SPAR Express (operated in conjunction with Shell as a petrol forecourt store), KWIKSPAR (which focuses on convenience in city centres and high footfall locations) and SUPERSPAR (similar to EUROSPAR in offer).

South Africa was the first country outside of Europe to join the SPAR organisation. The SPAR Group Ltd grants sub-licences to independent retailers to operate stores under one of the four formats in South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique and Angola. Almost all the current store portfolio is independently owned.
