The 109th SPAR store in Slovenia has opened its doors in the northwestern town of Cerkno. SPAR Slovenia invested a total of €3.3 million in the new store, creating jobs for 24 full-time employees. Featuring a sales area of 1,100m2, a glass façade and a modern, wood-panelled canopy, the new SPAR Supermarket was built according to SPAR Slovenia’s latest store design guidelines.

Product offering

In the entrance area, customers can find the fresh food sections with an extensive choice of fruit and vegetables, including domestic products presented on a wooden hayrack. Other store highlights include the bread and pastry section, delicatessen department, and well-stocked butchery. The instore assortment includes products for customers with special dietary requirements, as well as a large variety of SPAR TO GO prepared dishes, sandwiches, and salads.

Sustainable features

The SPAR Supermarket in Cerkno was built with a strong focus on sustainability. The store features a charging station for electric vehicles, energy-saving LED lighting, and a state-of-the-art efficient heating and cooling system.

Like in most SPAR and INTERSPAR stores nationwide, SPAR Slovenia has installed Tomra vending machines to collect returnable packaging, thus supporting a circular economy.

Community involvement

With its new store in Cerkno, SPAR Slovenia provides a modern and pleasant shopping environment, where customers can enjoy a high-quality and affordable product range and friendly service. The opening event was attended by SPAR Slovenia’s General Manager David Kovačič and the city’s mayor, Gašper Uršič.

“At SPAR, we have been striving for friendly customer service and a varied and high-quality choice for 30 years, as our customers always come first. With our new supermarket, we will meet the wishes and needs of every customer”, says David Kovačič.

During the store’s opening event, SPAR Slovenia announced the donation of €3,000 to three local organisations. Customers could vote for the donation amount that each of the associations will receive. They could choose between the Cerkno Voluntary Fire Brigade, the Idrija-Cerkno Coexistence Association, and the Cerkno Aragonite Hedgehog Family Scouts.
