SPAR Slovenia invests €6.4 million in new store

December 13, 2021 IN THE CATEGORY: Store openings

SPAR Slovenia opened a new SPAR Supermarket in the town of Ivančna Gorica on 25 November. This 110th SPAR store in the country has over 1,700m2 sales area and creates jobs for 27 full-time employees. SPAR Slovenia invested €6.4 million in the store, which was built in line with the retailer’s latest store design guidelines.

Store exterior and product offering

The store has a striking exterior and the glass façade is complemented by a modern canopy lined with aluminium panels. Near the entrance, customers find an extensive choice of fresh fruit and vegetables, including many products sourced from domestic producers. The focus on fresh continues with a large selection of bread and pastries, delicatessen, a well-stocked butchery and a fish market. Another highlight is the SPAR-to-go area offering prepared meals, sandwiches, and salads. Customers can see the food preparation, created by skilled SPAR team members.

Sustainable features

Sustainability is integrated in SPAR Slovenia’s modernisation programme and that also applies to this latest supermarket. The store offers a charging station for electric vehicles, has energy-saving LED lighting throughout, and a state-of-the-art efficient heating and cooling system. The system uses CO2 gas, and the heat from the refrigeration technology warms the store in winter and cools it in summer, increasing.

As in most SPAR and INTERSPAR stores nationwide, SPAR Slovenia has installed Tomra vending machines to collect returnable packaging, thus supporting a circular economy.

Community support

SPAR Slovenia announced the donation of €3,000 to three local organisations at the opening event. Customers could vote to determine the donation amount that each association would receive. Community beneficiaries include the Ivančna Gorica Voluntary Fire Brigade, the Ivančna Gorica City Library, and the Šentvid pri Stični Children’s Treatment Centre.

SPAR Slovenia’s Financial Director commented at the opening: “Residents of Ivančna Gorica and surrounding areas now have access to a store that features modern shopping standards, and we are convinced that it will meet the needs of every single customer. The donation to three local organisations highlights how we strive to be an important partner in the communities we operate in.”
