SPAR Mozambique has shown a solid performance for 2019 with organic growth in local currency of 12,7%, despite challenging conditions in the country. In the capital, Maputo, SPAR runs six supermarkets. Three SPAR Supermarkets with a combined retail area of 3,100m2 and three SUPERSPAR Supermarkets with a combined area of over 18,000m2 offer an extensive assortment, including a strong range of SPAR Own Brand products. Another six stores are located across the nation, with the furthest one being 3,000km away from the capital.

On average, SPAR Mozambique’s 600+ employees meet the needs of its customers not only through the shopping experience but also through its focus on customer service. SPAR is adding a host of innovative promotions to Mozambique’s retail landscape throughout the year. It is also actively involved in community activities, successfully supporting a number of fundraising initiatives on a local level annually.

Several Bean Tree Café’s in SPAR Supermarkets have become an integral part of the retail offer and have been well received by customers. There remains a focus on the fresh offer throughout the stores with retail produce coming from SPAR Lowveld in South Africa which supplies most of the goods. The strong range of SPAR Own Brand products which are also available are welcomed by customers.

An increase in foreign investment into Mozambique in recent years has led to economic growth, which in turn has boosted the disposable income of SPAR customers. This is set to continue, with further growth of 4.7% forecast for 2020.

SPAR Mozambique is part of the SPAR Group Ltd of Southern Africa. Operating since 2012, it has continued to roll out more stores in the past fourteen months, bringing the brand to new cities, providing customers a great shopping experience. Sub-licensing of the brand to independent retailers ensures the quality that has been embraced by shoppers across the country.
