At the end of 2025, SPAR Hungary’s network comprised 647 stores, of which 316 are independently operated. There is a combination of independent-run formats, including SPAR stores, OMV-SPAR express, and Lukoil-DESPAR stores, found across the country. This part of the business employs 4,120 people and reported transactions exceeding 228 million during 2025. During the previous financial year, six SPAR company-owned stores transitioned to independent management, with a further six stores opening by independent retailers, reflecting growth in this division. SPAR Hungary reported that 17% of its total retail turnover in 2025 was generated by SPAR retailers, operating under license by independent retailers.
Retailers are investing in the modernisation of their stores, paying particular attention to expanding the baked goods offering, adopting energy-efficient solutions, and incorporating digitalisation. Through partnering with SPAR Hungary, retailers can access digital price displays, retail layout plans, best practice in bakery equipment and bakery technologies, amongst others.
A newer partnership is with the Wolt platform, which has completely taken over the SPAR Online Shop. Now available nationwide, with 87 stores in 51 municipalities, reaching nearly 4 million people, offering a choice of around 10,000 products, and delivering within 1 hour.
A long-term partnership with the Maltese Charity Service and the National Animal Protection Foundation was continued in 2025. More than 218 million forints were given to charitable causes during the year following successful fundraising and support campaigns run in stores.
In 2025, SPAR Hungary’s turnover reached 1,185.5 billion forints, representing a 5.9 per cent increase compared to the previous year. SPAR Hungary has also continued its development programme, spending HUF27.7 billion to modernise 20 existing stores and open three new stores. Significant investment is also being made in logistics and food production, in addition to the retail portfolio investment.
