SPAR Gran Canaria reached the milestone of 200 stores on the island, on the opening of a new store, located in the Guanarteme neighbourhood. Further expansion was seen by SPAR Gran Canaria opening stores in the areas of El Agujero and Isleta. SPAR Gran Canaria is developing a new forecourt store format, with the SPAR Express store opening inside the Santana Domínguez gas station. The new store will be open 365 days a year and focus on convenience by offering prepared meals for customers on the go.
With people at the heart of its business, the commitment of SPAR Gran Canaria to local communities can be seen through a variety of initiatives. Recently, for the sixth consecutive year, SPAR Gran Canaria renewed its collaboration with El Museo Canario. The programme titled “Family Visits”, provides the opportunity for families to enjoy free educational workshops, games, and dynamic tours dedicated to spreading cultural heritage.
A long-lasting collaboration with the local Red Cross in Las Palmas further supports families in need. In April, SPAR Gran Canaria donated 4,836 liters of milk to support the most vulnerable families and raise awareness. Another recent donation of €5,000 was made to the Spanish Association Against Cancer. The donation will go toward the Association’s Social Aid Programme, providing wallet cards to shoppers in need to facilitate access to a healthy and varied diet.
SPAR Gran Canaria continuously reaffirms its commitment to the environment by joining the global Earth Hour initiative. On March 22, the supermarket chain partially turned off its lights to spread the message of climate action and its commitment to sustainability among employees, customers, and society at large.
This environmental focus is also shown by SPAR Gran Canaria continuously supporting local sourcing. With the recent renewal of the partnership with the San Nicolás Agricultural Cooperative Society (Coagrisan), the quality production of La Aldea tomatoes is once again being promoted, guaranteeing fair prices for farmers and sustainable farming practices.
Utilising the better together approach, SPAR Gran Canaria consistently brings positive environmental and social impact locally and continues to build a strong presence on the island.

SPAR Spain was founded in 1959 when a group of wholesalers who wished to join an international organisation came together. As a result, the brand became the first voluntary trading chain to be established in Spain, having been granted a license by SPAR International.
