SPAR Georgia opens first independent retailer-run store

August 25, 2016 IN THE CATEGORY: Store openings

SPAR is growing in Georgia and in line with the original founding principles of the brand which facilitates the growth of independent retailers; SPAR Georgia is now entering into sub-licencing. Their first venture into the region of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti in western Georgia has also seen the launch of the new store in Zugdidi being operated by an independent retailer under licence from SPAR.

Aimed at the local community, the new SPAR store places a focus on convenience with an extensive Food-to-Go offer. Other departments in the 197m2 store include Fruit and Veg, Meat, Fish and Dairy.

Ahead of the opening, announcements were made on SPAR Georgia’s Facebook page, flyers were distributed throughout the city and press releases were issued to the media. The store was officially opened by the Mayor of Zugdidi and one of the country’s leading TV News Channels was present to film and report on the event (video in Georgian with no sub-titles).

Customers have expressed delight in the broad range of products on offer and the high quality fresh assortment.

A lot of support was received from SPAR International in terms of store layout planning, department designs and instore communications when developing the brand for Georgia and all of these principles have been applied to the sub-licenced store.
