SPAR Express in Austria to expand further

December 10, 2019 IN THE CATEGORY: Store openings

Over the next 14 months, SPAR Austria will open another 20 SPAR Express forecourt stores in the country. The first SPAR Express stores featuring a fresh market area were launched in Amstetten, Lower Austria, ahead of the concept rolling out across the country.

SPAR Express forecourt stores are considered a leading concept in the Austrian industry due to their state-of-the-art locations, the extensive range on offer and extended opening hours as well as being open on Sundays and public holidays.

With a sales area of 80m², the new SPAR Express in Amstetten offers customers everything they need for daily shopping. The recently opened forecourt station is operated by SPAR Austria’s partner, forecourt operator Doppler. This is the 15th SPAR Express store in Lower Austria, and the 51st store which SPAR Austria has launched in cooperation with Doppler. In addition, customers have access to 15 parking spaces and two disabled parking spaces.

“We are pleased to announce that we are launching our SPAR Express expansion programme in Amstetten and will be opening a further 20 state-of-the-art SPAR Express forecourt stores throughout Austria over the next 14 months,” said SPAR Austria’s Board Director Fritz Poppmeier.

The revised SPAR Express layout includes a greater focus on fresh which is located in the centre of the store. The offering includes not only freshly baked bread and pastries but also fruit, vegetables, flowers and a coffee-to-go solution. Attention has been paid to the environmental footprint with cooling systems and lighting being environmentally friendly.

“No other forecourt store in Austria offers a supermarket range at these prices as well as 24/7 service. The concept of SPAR Express stores is unique and tailored to the needs of our customers. We fill the gap of shopping at supermarket prices outside of regular opening hours,” said Alois Huber, SPAR Austria’s Managing Director for Vienna, Lower Austria and Northern Burgenland.

SPAR Express forecourt stores have been a success story since being introduced. Sales performances are well above the Austrian food market level and reflect the customers’ need for more flexibility in grocery shopping. “This positive development is driving us to implement new, innovative projects, such as the store in Amstetten, and to continue developing new concepts,” concluded Fritz Poppmeier.
