SPAR Shandong, SPAR China partner for the North of the country, continues to develop its store network with the opening of new and modernised SPAR supermarkets.

New SPAR Shandong supermarket in Laoshan District, Qingdao

This new SPAR supermarket is located in the Wanggezhuang Subdistrict in Laoshan District, Qingdao. Nestled between Laoshan Mountain and the Yellow Sea, the supermarket is located on a main tourist route for those heading to the Northern side of Laoshan. The supermarket has an extensive focus on fresh produce, including fruit and vegetables, seafood, and meat. A dedicated food-to-go department offers options ranging from fish and chicken to steamed buns and other local pastries. Instore, customers can also get their daily shopping essentials, catering to both the locals and tourists who pass by the supermarket.

Reopening of two modernised supermarkets

SPAR Shandong also saw the reopening of two supermarkets in the Jinan region after extensive renovations of the interior design and implementation of a new-generation store concept, which focuses on optimised layouts and fresh food departments. The SPAR Shandong Jinan Dinghao Plaza supermarket and SPAR Shandong Dezhou Qihe Wanda supermarkets are both larger-format stores, with retail sales areas of 3,300m2 and 2,600m2, respectively.

Both supermarkets have received a revamped product assortment to better meet the needs of local customers. Standout departments focus on fresh produce, with the fruit and vegetable, fish, and meat departments receiving produce directly from local suppliers. Customers can purchase all of their grocery essentials from both well-known domestic and international products, making the supermarkets a true one-stop shop destination. Digital enhancements across both supermarkets include self-checkouts, automated weighing scales, and home delivery options.

About SPAR China

The SPAR brand was introduced to China in 2004 with the signing of the licence agreement for the Shandong province. Today, two core partners build the brand in the north and south, extending the communities having access to SPAR stores. The privately-owned retail chains licensed to operate the SPAR brand have a cooperative relationship. As a result, this partnership aligns with the original SPAR mission of working together to reduce costs, maximise sales, and increase profits.
