Following the launch of their joint trial phase in April, SPAR Austria and petrol station operator JET are now expanding their collaboration to western Austria with an additional test location. The SPAR Express forecourt store at the JET filling station in Saalfelden, in the state of Salzburg, is a targeted expansion of the trial phase. This step will provide insights on shopper responses from different regions and site locations.

“We are delighted to expand the trial phase in western Austria together with JET. This allows us to further develop our excellent cooperation in a targeted way and once again demonstrate what modern shopping at SPAR Express stores can look like: affordable, fresh, fast, high-quality, and tailored to customers’ needs,” said SPAR Austria CEO Hans K. Reisch.

Shopping 365 days a year at supermarket prices

As part of their joint test phase, JET and SPAR Austria are now also continuing to develop forecourt stores in western Austria. At the new location in Saalfelden, customers can expect a carefully selected range of about 1,500 products across 80m². The store opens daily, including all public holidays, between 6 am and 10 pm.

In addition to traditional products for quick shopping, the focus is on fresh food, chilled snacks, and a wide selection of drinks. The range comprises international branded products and SPAR Own Brand products, to which the supermarket price guarantee applies. This means that all SPAR Own Brand products, fruit, vegetables, meat, freshly baked bread and pastries are just as affordable as in a SPAR supermarket. Everyday essentials are available in a compact, clearly laid-out format.

Modern store design with clear navigation

The store design focuses on a bright, open layout with clear structures and high shelves. Product categories are clearly arranged, enabling quick, intuitive shopping. Natural materials, modern lighting and an appealing presentation of the fresh food sections create a pleasant shopping atmosphere.

About SPAR Austria

The origins of the SPAR brand in Austria date back to 1954. The current SPAR AG was created in 1970 when the original founding families joined other regional wholesalers to form SPAR Austria AG – a 100% privately owned Austrian company. Company-owned stores operate throughout the country as part of a multi-format retail strategy developed since the 1960s, whilst independent retailers operate under sub-licence from SPAR Austria and continue building the brand’s presence.
