July 2, 2018 IN THE CATEGORY: Store openings

SPAR Zimbabwe has opened a new store in Kwekwe, a mining city that has the largest mineral wealth in the country and is considered to be the industrial centre of Zimbabwe.

SPAR Kwekwe is located along the main road, which travels through the Central Business District, alongside the main highway connecting Harare in the North with Bulawayo in the South of the country. As such, it attracts a wide variety of customers, from out of town miners and local street vendors, to suburban residents and travellers on the Harare-Bulawayo route.

The retail selling space of SPAR Kwekwe is 1,020 m2. The destination departments include: Butchery, Bakery, Food-to-Go, Fresh Fruit & Veg, Chilled, Frozen, Bulk, Dairy and the Pay Zone (financial services).

The store opened with a road show, supplier demos outside the store and entertainment throughout the day. The Mayor of Kwekwe, Councillor Matenda Madzoke, gave an official address and members of the press were also in attendance.

The grand opening was advertised on social media and through promotional flyers. A branded activation truck was present on the day with a team on hand to announce the new SPAR opening and engage with the public. Instore, special opening day prices and supplier offers generated a lot of interest, with weekly promotions running for the month of June.

SPAR Kwekwe is the 14th SPAR Zimbabwe corporate store, bringing the total number of SPAR stores nationwide to 34. A total of 70 new jobs were created with the opening of SPAR Kwekwe – all new employees are from the local Kwekwe community.

SPAR Kwekwe will soon be expanding to include a restaurant and a TOPS liquor store.
