The latest SPAR Supermarket, which covers 1,030m2, caters for a mix of local residents and expats, many of whom are familiar with the SPAR Brand from their home markets. There is a focus on the fresh offer with a Fresh Fish counter, Butchery, Bakery, and Food-to-Go department. These full range service departments perfectly complement the extensive dry grocery range.
The store opening was promoted through direct drop flyers, newspaper advertisements, social media campaigns and radio announcements. Consumer reaction to the new store has been extremely positive with over 2,000 transactions on the opening day.
Plans are in place to open more stores in 2019, ranging in size from neighbourhood supermarkets to large scale hypermarkets. The success of the brand in the capital city will enable store launches in other parts of the country as well.
Shoppers in Qatar are increasingly seeking healthy solutions, fitting with SPAR’s objective of providing customers with enough information to make informed choices about the foods they buy.
The team in Qatar has been supported by SPAR International with the facilitation of study tours to other SPAR markets, fostering an awareness of the SPAR way of working. Support has also been provided with supply chain and logistics developments, store design and layout planning, staff training materials, retail operations training, category management training and design development for promotions and launch campaigns.
