In this issue, we recap the 69th International SPAR Congress, which took place in Belfast, Northern Ireland, at the end of May. The Congress brought together delegates from across the SPAR world to exchange knowledge and international best practice, as well as showcasing the development of the SPAR brand in Northern Ireland.
The SPAR brand in China has grown continuously since entering the market in 2004, with 352 stores operating nationwide. We highlight some of the exceptional store developments in China, which bring an innovative shopping experience to customers. Further store openings in markets including the Nordics and Continental Africa bring the brand closer to local communities and effectively serve their needs. SPAR country organisations work closely with local producers to ensure that customers have access to products that reflect the quality and heritage of their regions.
Independent retailers form the backbone of SPAR’s presence, with over 8,500 independently owned and operated stores worldwide, and a strong European presence. We spotlight Independent Retail Europe, which brings together associations and groups of independent retailers from across Europe to ensure that independent retail continues to thrive in an increasingly complex landscape.
This year, SPAR and European Athletics are celebrating 30 years of this impressive partnership that represents a shared focus on inspiring people and communities at all levels through the promotion of sport. The SPAR HR Conference brought to the forefront the innovation and best practice in HR seen across SPAR to tackle key issues and showcase SPAR as an employer of choice throughout various business operations.
