SPAR Northern Ireland  expands home delivery service

March 29, 2020 IN THE CATEGORY: COVID-19

Facing the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, SPAR partners continue to show great resilience and responsiveness in fulfilling their vital community role with great responsibility towards colleagues and customers. In Northern Ireland, SPAR and EUROSPAR Supermarkets are increasing access to home delivery for local communities, enabling customers to stay at home, a directive from the government to tackle the spead of the virus.

A spokesperson said the stores were doing all they could to ensure all members of the community could access their essentials at this time; “the rapid progression of the COVID-19 outbreak in Northern Ireland has meant that we now operate differently and are asking our shoppers to shop differently too.”

“We have restrictions on a number of products that can be purchased, the number of people allowed in our stores and have closed many of our deli counters. However, we are firmly placed to provide everyday essentials straight to our shoppers’ homes thanks to these delivery services in a number of communities in Northern Ireland”, the SPAR spokesperson said.

SPAR Northern Ireland further encourages shoppers to follow government guidelines by staying at home as much as possible.

“Ïf you absolutely have to visit one of our stores, please respect our social distancing and hygiene rules; wash your hands before entering, come in alone, stay only for as long as is needed and please keep that 2 metre distance from all other people in store. Our stores now have clearly marked social distancing measures and guidelines that all shoppers must adhere to.”

“Thank you to our fantastic retail colleagues and staff who have been working so hard to continue to provide for their local communities. The community spirit is alive and well and helping us all get through this tough time.”

The growing number of SPAR and EUROSPAR stores offering this service can be found here.  SPAR Northern Ireland is part of the Henderson Group, licence holder for SPAR Brand in their market.

SPAR Partners around the globe are supporting their communities during these challenging times through various methods, including innovative online shopping solutions. From SPAR Oman’s scaled up e-commerce service, SPAR Hungary’s extended delivery hours, to SPAR Austria’s expanded delivery service to the elderly, SPAR Partners around the world are helping customers stay at home as much as possible.

About SPAR United Kingdom

The UK became a member of SPAR in 1956 when a group of independent wholesalers was granted the SPAR licence by SPAR International. There are five regional partners in the UK with strategically placed Distribution Centres in each region. Partners are A F Blakemore, C J Lang, Appleby Westward, Henderson Group and James Hall & Co. The central office, located in London, provides national marketing and buying services for the group and supports the development of the brand.

SPAR has led the convenience market in the UK for many years but has faced increasing competition. Always innovative, the five regional partners have continued to grow the brand. Throughout the UK, a combination of independently-owned licensed retailers and company-owned stores can be found, spanning forecourts, airports, train stations, city centres, and local neighbourhoods.
