SPAR Hungary is supplying free hot lunches and sandwiches as part of an initiative for the healthcare professionals who are under a lot of pressure during the current COVID-19 outbreak.  Restaurants, catering companies and individuals are all coming together through this platform to provide ingredients, ready-to-eat foods, prepare meals and make deliveries to hospitals.

As part of the social initiative “Food for our doctors”Chef Márton Keve and his team at the Easy Wine Budapest Bisztró, in the centre of Budapest, prepare 100 hot meals for the staff of the local Szent László Hospital every day. For a smooth running of operational tasks, a crew was established from the teams and volunteers of caterer Borganika, the Easy Wine Budapest Bisztró and the Menedékház Foundation, a charity taking care of homeless families.

SPAR Hungary is supporting the initiative by supplying the ingredients required for the 100 hot lunches. Additional support for the many doctors and healthcare professionals throughout the capital city is the donation of pre-packaged SPAR enjoy sandwiches worth more than HUF 1,5 million (over €4,000)

“We cannot express either in money or in food how grateful we are to healthcare workers. We encourage all our partners and customers to support this initiative, and we ask everyone to comply with the rules required by the authorities”, said Márk Maczelka, Head of Communications at SPAR Hungary.

About SPAR Hungary

The first SPAR Supermarket opened in Hungary in 1992, following the acquisition by ASPIAG (Austria SPAR International AG) of a majority stake in General Kereskedelmi Rt. Since its launch, SPAR Hungary has been actively involved in the development of the retail industry in the country.

The move to license independent retailers to operate the SPAR Brand has proven successful for Hungary, with new stores meeting the needs of a larger number of shoppers. The retailers benefit from becoming part of the SPAR organisation with access to own brand products, operating systems and the brand, whilst consumers enjoy the increased number of store locations.
