SPAR Gran Canaria strengthens disinfection protocols in stores and logistics centres

SPAR Gran Canaria is guaranteeing the strict disinfection of its 189 stores and two logistics centres, Mercalaspalmas and El Goro. To maintain the highest hygiene standards, SPAR team members are using broad-spectrum disinfectants to combat almost twenty viruses and more than 120 types of microorganisms.

Since this heightened security protocol began in March, the SPAR Spain partner has used more than 4,000 litres of disinfectant across its facilities, especially in high-traffic areas. Both store and distribution centre team members follow strict sanitary instructions and make use of face masks, nitrile and vinyl gloves, goggles, and protective visors. 

A specialised company carries out a daily three-hour disinfection in logistics centres. Every night, the 3,400m² of refrigerated warehouses, packing areas, and six truck loading docks at Mercalaspalmas are disinfected as well. Additionally, office areas, employee locker rooms, restrooms, hallways, and buttons throughout the facility are also treated. 

Every Saturday, the contracted company also carries out a nebulization procedure, a more extreme viricidal disinfecting technique.

Right from the beginning of the corona outbreak, protective screens have been installed at cashier lines to safeguard the well-being of team members and customers.  

SPAR Gran Canaria has distributed alcohol-based cleaning materials among all stores to disinfect surfaces of frequent use such as counters, food preparation areas, baskets and shopping carts, as well as loading areas and offices.
