About SPAR Netherlands

SPAR Netherlands has been building the brand’s presence across the country with a multi-format retail strategy, strong offer of SPAR Own Brand, good selection of exclusive brands and delivers to retailers from its semi-automated warehouse located in the south of the country, in the town of Waalwijk. 


Young entrepreneurs increasingly drive the brand’s presence in city centres, embracing SPAR’s voluntary trading concept which was the founding principle of the brand back in 1932.

SPAR independent retailers continue developing and opening new stores in strategic urban locations, which saw the total retail sales area grow by 9.7% in 2020 across 453 store.


Neighbourhood and city centre stores perform are the core focus for the brand awareness. Ten SPAR stores service university campuses across the country. Finally, petrol forecourt stores round out the multi-format operation. A strong e-commerce platform enables independent retailers to offer tailored solutions to their local customers. In 2020, SPAR Netherlands unveiled the nation’s first concept one-person shop which has been used as a pop-up shop since launch, also creating brand presence at festivals and outdoor events, highlighting the company’s innovative approach to retailing.


SPAR Netherlands acquired a majority stake in premium sandwich chain, The Tosti Club, in 2020. This store-in-store concept continues to be rolled out in SPAR stores across the country, building on the foodservice credentials which the company is developing.
