SPAR Croatia increases its range of local products

One of SPAR Croatia’s key focus areas is local sourcing and an impressive 77% of its food offering is sourced from local, Croatian, businesses. SPAR Croatia currently co-operates with 400 small, medium and large local suppliers, with this number steadily increasing.

Since April this year, SPAR Croatia has increased its local supplier base by 5.8%, with the largest growth recorded in the fresh fruit and vegetable category as well as in the wine department.

To raise awareness of locally sourced products instore, a new range called “SPAR Garden of Croatia” (SPAR Vrtovi Hrvatske) was launched recently, comprising products sourced from 30 local suppliers. The range is available in all SPAR and INTERSPAR stores throughout the year, based on seasonal products. Currently, for example, the range offers up to 15 domestic apple varieties and after the harvest at the end of September, other seasonal varieties of the fruit will become available.

Further demonstrating its commitment to supporting local producers, SPAR Croatia  launched a campaign called “Yes, Local!”, encouraging the purchase of local goods. “We have been cooperating with Croatian suppliers since our first day of business,” said Helmut Fenzl, CEO of SPAR Croatia.

“Croatian products are of the highest quality and offer the best value-for-money, and we will continue to support our local partners,” he concluded.

About SPAR Croatia

The first SPAR Hypermarket opened in Croatia in mid-2005, following the signing of the licence agreement between ASPIAG (Austrian SPAR International AG) and SPAR International in 2004.

As a member of the ASPIAG group, SPAR Croatia has access to a wide range of own brand products. Brand development has primarily taken place through SPAR Supermarkets and INTERSPAR Hypermarkets, both through the take-over of existing chains and the opening of new stores.
