Following a campaign run earlier this year aimed at promoting employee health, SPAR Austria has donated €10,000 to SOS Children’s village Austria.

The campaign, ‘Every move counts’, was run in partnership with UNIQA health insurer and involved SPAR and UNIQA employees tracking their steps made whilst walking, running or hiking with the help of the SPAR Health Coach App. Upon 100 million steps being reached, SPAR Austria and UNIQA promised to donate €10,000 to the local children’s charity.

Impressively, the participants exceeded this goal, reaching 187 million steps and a cheque was handed over to SOS Children’s village Austria. Encouraging health and development, the money will go towards supporting the sporting talent and interest of the charity’s children.

“Through this campaign, we wanted to motivate our employees to get more exercise to positively influence their health. For many participants, the donation provided an important incentive to keep going,” said Filip Kisiel, UNIQA Project Manager.

“Our SPAR Health Coach app offers proper exercise programmes, nutritional advice, and mental fitness tips – all important for a healthy lifestyle. On a daily basis, we were able to follow how close we were getting to our donation target,” said Renate Fellner-Färber, Head of Health Management at SPAR Austria.

With the donation, SOS Children’s village Austria will be able to support families and children living in physically or socially difficult circumstances throughout Austria. The aid ranges from disability work and care for socially vulnerable children, through to individual support for families in need.
