SPAR International is proud to again be the principal sponsor of the European Athletics Indoor Championships which take place from 1-3 March in Glasgow, attracting many fans from around the world.

The last time the European Indoor Championships were held in Glasgow was back in 1990 when household names such as Linford Christie (60m), Tom McKean (800m), Rodion Gataullin (pole vault), Doina Melinte (1500m) and Heike Henkel (high jump) were all crowned champions at the Kelvin Hall.

The 2019 Championships will be the 35th occurrence of the event with over 600 athletes from 50 countries taking part. With a venue capacity of 5,500, up to 30,000 individuals are expected to pass through the Emirates Arena over the course of the three days to follow the action live. Media interest in athletics continues to be high, bringing these incredible athletics from Europe’s finest athletes to the fans at home through extensive television coverage, livestreaming and social media updates.

SPAR Scotland has been promoting this event with some exciting instore and social media campaigns, complemented by a meet and greet of a GB team member competing in Glasgow as well as having the Mascot touring several local SPAR stores to the delight of the youngest shoppers.

SPAR UK will run a SPAR Sports Club during the event at the stadium, involving two physical challenges encouraging participants to “Beat the Athlete”. The younger generation can also get into the action, participating in the speed bounce fun challenge, already a proven success from past events. Participants can win fun prizes and a Fitbit.
